"I was thinking about how the oral tradition of music is like free recall, a psychological study of memory where subjects are presented disparate items and asked to recall what they saw. Let's keep free recall of music alive!! Institutions are fine; but they can stifle the blossoming of creativity.
On Transience: A friend of mine once said that since New Orleans is sinking, that it represents "the beauty of the decay." I find this concept, though seemingly poignant, fond to think of for it reminds me of the moment and our perception is about all we got. Perhaps the more we are reminded of the finality of something, the death of something, the more we are inclined to enjoy it.
*"In psychology, the Simon effect is the finding that there is a difference in accuracy or reaction time between trials in which stimulus and response are on the same side and trials in which they are on opposite sides." I find this very interesting because drummers are always trying to train their mind to react equally for both limbs in order to transcend the thought of the existence of a dominant hand."
